Coconut Oil Colored Eggs

How about trying some coconut oil colored eggs? Fun, fast and better than others!

Dye solution:

  • 10 drops food coloring in assorted colors
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar per color
  • 1 cup lukewarm water per color

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • dozen hard cooked eggs

In order above mix dye solution in disposable cups. Then dye hard cooked eggs to desired color and set to dry.

When eggs are ready for second contrasting color heat the coconut oil in microwave proof container for 30 seconds until liquified.

Dip small teaspoon in oil and shake over each color dipping bowl. The oil will act as a resist and when dipped a second time will keep the first color. If oil drops are big you will have big spots. If you want smaller spots then stir with a toothpick to break the oil up into smaller bubbles.

Dip the eggs in a color that will be darker than the first. Dip slowly one side then turn to cover, set for 30 seconds till desired darkness.

To achieve the coolest contrasts without muddy looking eggs we recommend Dipping yellow to orange, yellow to pink, yellow to green, orange to pink, green to blue, pink to blue. We also just liked the natural white of the egg dipped in any color. Be creative!

Let dry on rack or paper towels. Once dry gently rub egg with cloth to remove excess coconut oil. The oil will also give a nice sheen to your beautifully colored eggs.
